For this project, located in the Hale Village Conservation Area, we were appointed as Architects to reconfigure the inside of an existing cottage which had been recently been purchased by our clients.
Our brief was to move the entrance and reconfigure the ground floor layout to provide an open plan lounge, and a new kitchen dining room & utility opening onto the garden. We were also required to apply for conservation area consent to demolish the existing garages and submit a householder planning application to extend the dormer
The client also wanted to replace the existing rear dormer with a larger one and vault the first floor ceilings to expose the existing roof structure.
The main feature of the design was to be a floating cantilevered staircase which we designed ourselves and the client had made. Normally this type of stair would cost in the region of £10-15k to supply and fix, however using our detailed drawings our client was able to commission the stair directly and have this one made and fitted for a fraction of that cost.
